Resin Artist – About Us

Resin Artist Introduction

Introducing resin artist, John Meng-Frecker, the artist behind Watercolor Wildflowers. Everything resin artists need is located in my shop / studio. You can ask for a studio appointment by calling (402) 943-7516. The studio is at 5069 Leavenworth St. in Omaha, NE. John lives and works just 5 minutes away and is happy to discuss your ideas. Please consider a purchase, commission, or “made to order” artwork. John specializes in creating illuminated light houses, stunning visual watercolor paintings and unique resin art sculptures. These are transparent resin paintings that can literally illuminate your home. LED back lighting is used with resin paintings and ornamental accents.

The Journey

My resin artist journey was learning all of this from scratch. I wanted my art to be unique to me. So I purposefully did not look at You Tube or other Resources to see what others were making. That experimental time served me well. My learning landed me far ahead of the Beginners. I’m just short of the awesome artists who do epoxy resin art for a living. And I have the studio which is so important.

Old But Beautiful is Amazing

This photograph of two ice plant flowers along the beaches of Southern California remind me of ourselves. Nancy and I have raised our four children and now we are retired, sort of. With age comes beauty as you can see by these flowers. I made a color print of this photograph and gave it to my “Skin and Beauty” doctor. He removed some skin cancer from my arm before I could continue my art trip in California. It was a good time to pause and think how beautiful is a 40-year marriage!

All About Us

My wife and I met in Eugene, Oregon when we were both 22. We married there and took a honeymoon to Victoria, British Columbia. We’ve moved back and forth from Oregon to Iowa to Oregon to Nebraska to Oregon to Nebraska again! Nancy put me through school at Oregon Tech and Iowa State. I’ve worked for the Corps of Engineers. I’ve worked for a private mapping company in Portland, OR. And I’ve been at three private sector civil / survey / engineering firms in Omaha, NE.

Still Growing Strong

Our kids are grown and we see them often. We love to travel for visits and short vacations. Maine and Prince Edward Island in Canada this August. We both work some. We spend a lot of time in our old charming house with a cozy wood fireplace, just like when we first met. We live in a great neighborhood of a large small town in the friendly Midwest. We made life the best we possibly could, and we are still greatly in love, yes, with each other.

Omaha is Home

We live in Nebraska because of friends. We wanted to live in Oregon because of scenery. The Midwest is where Nancy grew up. We wanted the same type of childhood for our family that she had. Living in a neighborhood with friendly people who care about others is the core of America’s Midwest. Older homes in neighborhoods under trees with birds singing makes a good reason to stay just where we are. We will take trips to National Parks and drive across this beautiful country.

My Art Philosophy and Style

As a landscape artist I’ve always loved mountain or coastal scenes that captivate and awe the senses. Many places can be considered beautiful, even Nebraska. In my compositions I like vertical relief. I have painted dams with water gushing from the spillway and trains bearing down on the viewer.

Choosing your subject carefully is the beginning of a successful painting or sculpture. A lot of time is committed when that decision is made. If it doesn’t look good as a thumbnail sketch, it will be difficult to make it so when its bigger. The same is true as a resin artist, I work out concepts first.

My artwork tends to be tight and geometric. I’ve tried to loosen up, and I can, sometimes. I think I need the right subject but a good artist can work with bland subjects. Curves, lines, shapes, overlap, and transparency are my elements.
